Dan Ugaste Calls On Opponent To Join Madigan Resignation Chorus
GENEVA – State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-65) today called upon his opponent Martha Paschke to join him in demanding Mike Madigan’s resignation as the Speaker of the House. Ugaste also encouraged Paschke to seek Madigan’s resignation from all Democratic Party leadership positions.
“So far we have seen a 38 page bribery scheme confession from ComEd describing how Madigan’s network operates and two suburban Democrat legislators calling on the Speaker to resign; yet, we hear nothing from my opponent. If this does not do it, what will convince Martha Paschke that she is partnering with the wrong people? If Martha does not immediately demand Mike Madigan’s resignation as Speaker of the Illinois House and return all of political contributions from Madigan, Madigan’s state party PAC and Madigan’s affiliates, she makes it clear that she is part of the problem instead of part of the solution,” said Ugaste. “We can no longer tolerate a culture in Springfield that leaves our citizens with anything less than complete confidence in their state government. My staff is scouring my records for contributions from ComEd and if there are any, they are going to be donated to a fund that helps people pay their electric bills.”
The Department of Justice is allowing ComEd to escape criminal prosecution in return for a $200 million fine and cooperation in its ongoing investigation into political corruption in Illinois. The Speaker of the House was specifically identified in the filing by the department.
Ugaste stated that he is working with fellow Republicans to remove Madigan immediately and invites any willing Democrat state representatives to join the cause.
